Play with Purpose:
Storyland features interactive play experiences to support six essential pre-reading skills that children can start learning from birth, including letter knowledge, narrative skills and vocabulary!
1. Print Motivation: Enjoy and take an interest in books and reading.
After your visit, ask your child to share their favorite parts of each book from the exhibit! Find new books and spend time reading together.
2. Print Awareness: Notice print and symbols in the world.
The Snowy Day welcomes guests to explore Peter's neighborhood after a fresh snowfall through wintry words.
3. Letter Knowledge: Identify letters by shape, name and sound.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom encourages children to point out letters and shapes.
4. Narrative Skills: Understand, tell and re-tell stories.
Children will have the opportunity to read to Mouse in If You Give a Mouse a Cookie giving them the chance to imagine, create and tell their own story.
5. Vocabulary: Recognize, understand and use words to describe objects and feelings.
Every moment is a chance to build vocabulary! As kids explore this exhibit, they'll hear new words and discover how to use them.
6. Phonological Awareness: Listen to and play with the smaller sounds and rhythms in words and sentences.
Tuesday brings a world of sound! Kids will hear and explore applause, laughter, radio tunes and frogs!
