Artist-in-residence
We know that play is powerful, and when you add music, the magic multiplies! Music helps little learners build confidence, boost creativity, develop language skills and so much more. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our 2025 Artist-in-Residence, Malik Johnson!
Meet Malik!
Malik Johnson a.k.a. “99TheProducer” is a Grammy-nominated classically trained cellist, composer and music producer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Malik has been passionately teaching music to youth across Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin to help them discover the transformative power of music. He has had the honor of performing alongside artists like Stevie Wonder, John Legend and PJ Morton. Malik continues to produce for various artists, blending his classical training with modern sounds to create music that inspires and connects with audiences of all ages.
As an Artist-in-Residence, Malik will facilitate musical exploration and produce a transformative collection of songs.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
From April to August, Malik will be at the Museum almost every week for interactive performances and community conversations that provide new and dynamic ways for children and families to learn at the Museum. Malik will also use his time engaging with families to inspire the composition of a brand-new, kid-friendly song that will be released at the end of his residency.
